Sacramento-Shasta Chapter Scholarships and Grants

The Randi Logsdon Diversity and Inclusion Memorial Award

Honoring Randi Logsdon, a longtime Sac-Shasta Chapter of TWS and Western Section TWS member, who passed away in October 2019.

Each Recipient will receive:

$200 towards registration and merchandise for the Annual Meeting of the Western Section of the Wildlife Society, held in February. If already registered for the meeting, a reimbursement to the recipient will be provided.

$300 towards registration in a wildlife, ecology, or conservation-based professional development training, workshop, or conference of the awardee’s choice (virtual or in-person* in California or Nevada). Additional information will be required from the recipient. *In-person will only be considered if consistent with TWS policies for in-person events.

Recipients will receive recognition at the Chapter Meeting in February.

Minimum Qualifications for the Randi Logsdon Award:

  • Ability to attend the Western Section Annual Meeting, typically in February
  • At least half-time enrolled student with an undergraduate or graduate class status from a college or university in California or Nevada
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA to date with unofficial, or official transcripts from the college or university attached to the application
  • Interest in exploring and developing a career in wildlife, ecology, or conservation sciences.
  • The recipient must belong to one or more of the following under-supported groups that have traditionally been underrepresented in the wildlife sciences: first-generation college attendees, veterans, persons with disabilities, gender, sex, native/ indigenous, and ethnically underrepresented groups.

Professional Research Grant – up to $2,500

The Professional Grant is offered to professionals associated with a college/ university and/or performing a research project within the geographical limits overseen by the Sacramento-Shasta Chapter.

This includes any state-accredited, two- or four-year college in the following counties: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba. Travel needs are incorporated into the grant.

Academic Research Scholarship – up to $1,500

The Academic Scholarship is offered only to students attending a high school/ college/ university or conducting research within the geographical limits overseen by the Sacramento-­Shasta Chapter.

This includes any state­-accredited, high school, two-­ or four-­year college in the following counties: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba. Travel needs are incorporated into the scholarship.

Travel Scholarship – up to $500

This scholarship is offered to full-time students in high school, juniors or seniors, college undergraduates, or graduate students.  Students must be attending a school or workshop, conference, or training within the geographical limits of the Sacramento-Shasta Chapter.

Past Scholarships Awarded:

Since 2006 our Chapter has given 15 Academic scholarships totaling $9,000. We are also proud to say that we have sponsored over 40 students with Travel scholarships totaling more than $2,000.
